Bruce Anchor Cruises operates within the Fathom Five National Marine Park which occupies some of the most pristine waters in the Great Lakes. Fathom Five is home to numerous historic light stations, over twenty known shipwrecks, and Flowerpot Island.

Our extremely unique and modern glass bottom vessels regularly depart Tobermory on an adventure through Fathom Five during the spring, summer, and fall months! Within 5 minutes of departing the dock we view two 19th century shipwrecks resting just a few feet below the surface. From there we pass by Big Tub Light (1885) on our way to Flowerpot Island, passing by other islands en route. As we cruise around Flowerpot Island you will view the historic Flowerpot Light station, the light keeper’s homes, the Flowerpot rock formations and many unique features of the island visible from the water. We then stop at the island to allow passengers the option to disembark and explore the island on foot for a couple of hours or the entire day. Upon departing Flowerpot Island it is a ten minute boat ride back to Tobermory.

Just 6.5 kilometers off the coast of Tobermory lies Flowerpot Island, one of Canada’s most fascinating natural attractions. Flowerpot Island is famous for its natural sea stacks, the “flowerpots”, as well as its caves, historic lightstation and variety of rare plants. Accessible only by boat, Flowerpot Island is the only island in Fathom Five National Marine Park with campsites and hiking trails. It is a great place to spend a couple of hours or a full day exploring the island, viewing the scenery, picnicking, or swimming.

Bruce Anchor Cruises own 4 vessels, the Tobermory Evolution, Tobermory Crusader, the Tobermory Frontier, and the Tobermory Explorer.

The Tobermory Evolution

This is our newest and largest glass bottom boat. It was delivered to us in July 2016 and has been custom built to provide the best possible tour of Fathom Five Marine Park. It has the most passenger capacity of any tour boat operating in Tobermory. The vessel features two large glass bottoms, a large upper deck, shelter from weather and sunlight and is built to the highest standards to ensure passenger comfort.

No Open Water Transfers!

All three of our new and modern boats are specially designed with an extremely shallow draught to operate in the waters surrounding Tobermory. They allow us easy access to all points of interest, even with today’s currently low water levels, without doing  open water transfers (transferring passengers from one boat to another boat in open water).

Glass Bottoms Designed For The 21st Century!

In the past, glass bottoms in Tobermory were constructed as a viewing chute where passengers would have to look over a railing in order to to view the glass located far below.

But it was time for a change! All Bruce Anchor Cruises boats have tempered glass built into the deck allowing passengers the ability to actually stand on the glass and look at the attractions below!! Our shallow draught improves glass bottom viewing by letting far more light under the boat to illuminate the attractions, compared to the older boats with displacement hulls that shadow the area under the glass bottom.

Stay Protected on the Water!

The Frontier and Explorer feature specially designed UV resistant canopy’s constructed from Makrolon Polycarbonate sheets. The canopies shelter our passengers from damaging UV radiation on the sunny days and protect passengers from the wind , cold, and water spray on the cooler days. The windows roll right up into the roof to allow for flawless photographs and to let the cool breeze of the lake refresh you on the hot days.

Fast! Quiet! Safe! & Environmentally Friendly!

Our vessels have been built to meet Transport Canada Near Coastal Class 2 Specifications and the Frontier and Crusader are Positive Buoyancy Foam Filled Construction.

The propulsion systems on our vessels are immensely-efficient prop-drive, saving fuel and cutting down on harmful emissions while maintaining outstanding performance for an exciting ride.

Bruce Anchor Cruises has done everything possible to ensure passengers enjoy a quiet and fume free experience, while admiring the attractions on our tour. Our gasoline motors are virtually silent at an idol and produce very little exhaust fumes.  All of the gasoline motors also meet EPA 3 Star Emissions Specs. Our Diesels are equipped with resonators and an under water exhaust to keep them quiet, and are EPA Tier 2, IMO and RCD certified.
